ووفقا لصحيفة معاريف العبرية، فان نهر الاردن يعتبر احد الانهار المشهورة تاريخيا ودينيا وذكر في التوراة علي انه مكان وقعت فيه عدة معجزات، على حد تعبيرها.
كما زعمت الصحيفة أن نهر الاردن ذكر في كتاب "يهوشعياهو" حول دخول "بني اسرائيل" الى فلسطين عبر نهر الاردن، كما ذكر في كتاب "ملاخيم" حيث حكي ان النبي الياهو " الخضر" اجتاز نهر الاردن ولكن السماء اخذته خلال عاصفة.
واعتبر خبير في الشأن الإسرائيلي بان إصدار بنك "إسرائيل" لقطعة الذاكرة ونقش نهر الاردن عليها هو تزيف للتاريخ، و أن "اسرائيل" تسعى من وراء ذلك لاثبات ان نهر الاردن أو "الاغوار" هي جزء لا يتجزأ من "اسرائيل"، وذلك على ضوء المفاوضات الجارية مع السلطة الفلسطينية ورفض "اسرائيل" الانسحاب من غور الأردن.
